The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communication, has released the notification for the recruitment of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) for the January 2026 schedule. This recruitment drive aims to fill vacant posts for Branch Postmasters (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmasters (ABPM), and Dak Sevaks across various Circles and Divisions in India. Selection is based purely on a system-generated merit list of 10th-standard marks.

Vacancy Details

Vacancies are distributed across three primary categories:

1. Branch Postmaster (BPM)
2. Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
3. Dak Sevak

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (As on February 16, 2026)

• Minimum Age: 18 years
• Maximum Age: 40 years
• Age Relaxation:
  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • PwBD + OBC: 13 years
  • PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years
  • EWS: No relaxation

Educational Qualification

• Secondary School Examination (10th Standard) pass certificate with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognized board.
• Local Language: The applicant must have studied the local language of the respective Circle/State at least up to the 10th standard.

Other Requirements

• Computer Knowledge: Applicants must be computer literate and able to use smartphones/laptops/computers.
• Cycling Knowledge: Knowledge of cycling or ability to drive a two-wheeler (scooter/bike) is mandatory.
• Livelihood: Selected candidates must have other sources of income besides the TRCA to support themselves and their families.
• Accommodation: Candidates selected as BPM must arrange suitable accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost.

Selection Process

• Merit List: Shortlisting is based on a system-generated merit list of marks obtained in the 10th standard.
• Mark Calculation: For boards providing grades, a multiplication factor of 9.5 will be applied to arrive at percentage marks.
• Physical Verification: Shortlisted candidates must undergo document verification at the designated Divisional/Unit office within 15 days of shortlisting.
• Medical & Police Verification: Final engagement is subject to medical fitness and antecedent verification by police authorities.

How to Apply Online

1. One-Time Registration (OTR): Visit https://indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement and register using a valid mobile number and email ID to obtain a Registration Number.
2. Login: Use the Registration Number and password received via SMS to log in.
3. Application Form: Fill in personal details, educational details (Circle, Board, and Marks), and upload a recent photograph (30-100 KB) and signature (20-100 KB) in JPG/JPEG format.
4. Preferences: Select one Division and exercise preferences for various vacant posts within that Division.
5. Fee Payment: Pay the application fee of ₹100 (if applicable).
6. Final Submission: Review the application using the “Preview” option and submit before the deadline of February 16, 2026 (17:00 Hrs).

After the closing date, a two-day correction window (Feb 18–19) will be provided for any modifications. Shortlisted candidates will be notified via SMS and email. Ensure all details exactly match your 10th-standard marksheet to avoid rejection.
